Itsuannette Canales, born in Ponce, PR and raised in New Haven, CT is a Marriage and Family Therapist. She obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management in 2009 from Albertus Magnus College and a Master’s Degree in Family Therapy in 2017 from Southern Connecticut State University. Through personal life experiences and faith, she recognized the need and developed a desire and passion to serve others. Itsuannette is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Connecticut Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CTAMFT), and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).
Itsuannette has worked with couples, individuals, youth, children and groups utilizing diverse systemic treatment models. She serves both English and Spanish speaking clients. Itsuannette’s work with clients include the following treatment models: Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Experiential Family Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Itsuannette incorporates faith-based practices in her clinical work if requested by her clients. She believes that change, progress and wellness can also come through faith and prayer incorporated with the various treatment model interventions.
Some of the types of problems Itsuannette has worked through with clients include: marital/relationship problems, parent-child problems, anxiety, depression, anger, trauma, abuse, compulsive disorders, defiant disorders and attachment issues. Itsuannette also worked extensively in the supervised visitation program at the Southern Connecticut State University Family Clinic.
